Former Johnny Carson sidekick Ed McMahon spoke out on CNN's Larry King Live about the possible foreclosure of his multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills mansion.

Asked what happened, McMahon, 85, joked Thursday, "How much time do you have?"

McMahon — who wore a neck brace — told King he hasn't worked since a fall two years ago.

"If you spend more money than you make, you know what happens," he said. "You know, a couple of divorces thrown in, a few things like that. And, you know, things happen."

On Tuesday, news broke that McMahon's lender, Countrywide Financial Corp., filed a notice of default in March on $4.8 million in mortgage loans.

Said his wife Pamela: "We didn't keep our eye on the ball. We made mistakes. It's embarrassing to say the least, and it's sad, because you know, Ed's worked his whole entire life."

If McMahon does not make some arrangement, the gated, six-bedroom estate (Britney Spears is a neighbor) will be sold at an auction.

McMahon said their house has been on the market for the past two years with no offers.

Since news of the foreclosure broke, he said there has been "tons of interest."

He added, "I'm optimistic."
