NBC's chief White House correspondent David Gregory has been named the new moderator of Meet the Press.
"I've thought a lot about what it means to succeed somebody like Tim Russert," Gregory told Meet the Press viewers on Sunday. "I'm not Tim. But along with this great team, I can just work real hard to make him proud."
Gregory, 38, who is currently the host of MSNBC's 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, anchored Race to the White House this fall, and has served as a substitute anchor for the weekend editions of Nightly News.
"Since joining NBC News in 1995, Gregory has covered nearly every major story for the network: from the O.J. Simpson trials, to the trial of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, to the impeachment of President Clinton, and the death of Pope John Paul II in Rome," it says on his NBC bio page.
Tom Brokaw has been serving as moderator since the death of Meet the Press moderator Tim Russert in June.
