Actor Hugh Laurie has claimed that after landed a role in the long running US medical drama House, the UK has “slammed” the door on him for acting opportunities.
But he told the Radio Times: “There’s a notion that I’ve sold out. Sold out what? There’s a peculiar British attitude that I took an oath I wouldn’t be successful, and reneged on it.”

He insisted that he had not been offered any work in the UK during his four years on the series, saying: “The door slammed behind me, and that’s it.”

Laurie appeared on British shows including Jeeves And Wooster, Blackadder, and A Bit of Fry and Laurie before making the move to US television.

Laurie has earned a Golden Globe and several Emmy nominations for his portrayal of maverick doctor Gregory House brilliantly done without any hint of an English accent in the hit Fox show.
